Learning Outcomes from Eat That Frog! Overcoming Procrastination

WHAT IS PROCRASTINATION?
Procrastination is the act of delaying or postponing tasks or actions that need to be accomplished, often to the point of causing problems or stress. Essentially, it means putting off something that needs to be done, even though you know it would be better to complete it sooner rather than later.
- Every successful goal starts with a good plan
- A clear plan can help to build motivation and commitment by outlining the benefits of achieving the goal and the specific actions needed to get there.
- Facilitates monitoring and evaluation: A plan also provides a framework for monitoring progress toward the goal and making any necessary adjustments to ensure success
2. Establish your priorities and focus on them
- Use the ABCDE method: Write a list of tasks and assign each of them a letter from A to E. The A items are the highest priority, while the Es can be skipped if you don’t have time.
- Set priorities: After knowing what you want to do, focus on doing it efficiently by setting your priorities.
- Focus all your willpower: Concentrate on the task at hand and focus all your willpower on completing your goals.
3. The path to progress is all about self-exploration
- Find the right environment: Find a space where you can truly think for and be yourself. Make sure it’s clean and everything you need is ready to go.
- Understand your skills: Everyone has a special talent that makes them unique. Find yours and maximize its potential. Ask yourself what’s easy for you that’s difficult for others and what has helped you achieve what you already have in life.
*You can’t start cooking if you don’t have all the ingredients. - Think about all the opportunities you have to keep learning. Did you know that the average driver spends from 500 to 1,000 hours on the road each year? Make use of this time
4. Perform best by staying optimistic and self-disciplined
- Understand your Posteriorities vs Priorities
- Take care of your body because it’s the engine of your success. This means getting enough rest, not overworking yourself, and figuring out the time of day when you’re most productive.
- Creative procrastination is choosing which activities you can postpone or skip. Efficient people can deliberately procrastinate less valuable activities, like watching TV, and focus on their priorities.
5. Acknowledge what’s holding you back then overcome it
- First, figure out what’s holding you back from realizing your goals. A number of things can limit you, like people, personal weaknesses, or a lack of resources. Nearly anything can hold you back if you let it.
- Set the bar high for yourself. Don’t wait for other people, like your boss or loved ones, to push you toward what you want. Be your own source of motivation.
- And if you can do that consistently, you’ll join the two percent of people who work without needing supervision. They’re called leaders.
6. Take control of your own time
- Time management is key to being productive.
- You can’t split up every task, as some tasks require long stretches of unbroken attention.
- Don’t wait too long before taking action, as planning is essential but taking action is crucial for experiencing the mental state of flow.
- Flow occurs when ideas come to you easily, and you’ll be more creative and perform better when you’re in your flow.
